Beach House
A charming Scandinavian style beach house, on the East Kent Coast
Working in collaboration with ‘Interior Design Geek’ (interiordesigngeek.com) as part of a full house renovation, this easy living garden is designed with ample space to entertain family & friends in the summer months.
An informal, low maintenance coastal garden.
Native trees & shrubs were planted alongside bright perennials and coastal grasses.
A multi-stem Betula utilis (Himalayan birch) stands proudly in the corner of the garden, surrounded by Anemanthele lessoniana (Pheasant’s tail grass) and pops of pink and purple from Nepeta racemosa and Centranthus ruber.
This project is where I fell in love with Dwarf Pines, the Pinus mugo Mughus – and I swear, I will never look back.
Design Outside.
The gardens were fully landscaped including the addition of an expansive dining terrace laid in clay pavers. ‘Hoggin’/self-binding gravel paths were laid around the garden to enhance the natural, coastal feel of the property (and I’m happy if the wildflowers seed in it over time)
Life Outside.
A new outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower and changing hut for the beach were created, alongside the renovation of an existing outhouse into a separate guest suite.
Brightly coloured outdoor furniture was selected to contrast with the beautiful colour of the house, brick clay pavers and natural wood of the new Kitchen & Shower hut.
